Who We Are
Audrey Flowers
I have been an educator for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 1980. My career began at the Maryland School for the Deaf where I had the opportunity to work with all age groups. I worked with toddlers aged 3 - 5, and elementary-aged students and eventually became the Dean of the dorm program at the high school level. after relocating to Los Angeles California I continued my education and teaching career. I worked as a staff sign language interpreter at California State University, Northridge, and Pierce College. While teaching at Marlton School for the Deaf in Los Angeles, I earned a master’s degree in communication disorders and two California teaching credentials; Deaf and Hard of Hearing and Severely Handicapped. At Marlton School for the Deaf, I taught various levels, at first working with Deaf high school students with autism and later becoming the language teacher for the middle and high school combined. I also taught preschool Deaf students, where I had many opportunities to work directly with parents as they learned to navigate communication and educational decisions for their young children.
At the end of my tenure at Marlton, I left to start my own family and returned to teach at Granada Hills Charter High School where I worked as a resource teacher for Deaf students in a fully included highly academic program. I helped to assess, and develop IEPs, advocate for students, interact with parents, schedule sign language interpreters, and support general education teachers. I have also been an Itinerant teacher for various schools where I had the opportunity to support and educate a vast array of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students at all grade levels including students on a diploma track and those on the alternative curriculum. I have also been involved in providing at-home educational services for Home Hospital Schools where students with varying degrees of need could not attend school. I have a vast array of experience working with students completing college applications, Department of Rehabilitation applications, and navigating their future resources. Providing consistent communication with parents regarding their child’s well-being both academically, socially, and emotionally has been my strength as an educator.

I have worked with students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 1996. I started my teaching career in Thornton, CO in a high school, center-based, Total Communication program for students who were Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH). I taught multiple subjects in Sign Language and helped coordinate supports and services with educational interpreters and paraprofessionals. The job also included extensive communication with parents and general education teachers. I also worked in the home intervention program which provided in-home services to families with children with hearing loss age birth to 3.
After 5 years teaching high school, I had the opportunity to work in the DHH Itinerant program where I worked with students in grades K-12, both in their general education classroom, as well as, in one-to-one settings. I then moved to Los Angeles, where I work as a DHH Itinerant. Throughout my years in Los Angeles, I have also worked as a program assessor, group leader and an instructional support provider. Deaf and Hard of Hearing Educational Solution is the perfect way to bring my experience and expertise to districts, students and families who are facing educator shortages and do not have knowledgeable and credentialed staff to meet the needs of students with hearing loss.
